The American Dream vs. YOUR dream

A nice, stable job. A huge house. White picket fence. 2.5 kids, dog, dishwasher, an SUV, a wife that cooks/cleans/gives you sex 2x a week (note that I highly disagree with the last point lol), soccer games…etc

What does that sound like?

The American Dream. It’s what everyone wants here in our great 50 states right?

ehhhh…..possibly. It’s time to fuck with your head.

Someone on some post somewhere wrote “…the american dream vs YOUR dream”

wow.

And I’m sure that every smart, able minded person wants this type of thing in their lives. But here’s the question: would you follow the “american dream” if you never knew what it was.

If no one told you that “college was the only way to success” would you still go?

If someone said “you have to make money WITHOUT a nine to five job” what would you do?

If someone said “it’s okay to be a stinkin-rich millionaire, race motorcycles, and bang gorgeous models for the rest of your life” would you actually pursuit that option.

(not saying I would, im just saying)

I think at this juncture, it is a grand time to redefine what the American Dream, or more importantly YOUR dream actually is.

When you strip all of the “achievements” awards and physical milestones, what is it that you want to do…at your core?

And is the “american dream” changing? With all of the money that hasĀ  been stolen, all the cars that have been possessed, houses foreclosed, etc… isn’t that part of the dream that is being walked out of the door?

I think the American dream is to actually define what YOUR dream is. It is not necessarily a nice suburban (re: boring) lifestyle and stability. For some, it is. For me though, the American Dream is to be wise enough to define what your dream is. And be brave (re: stupid) enough to go for it lol.

Just things to think about, and things to fuck with your head.

Love the post.. I smiled, then agreed, then thought about my goals again.

    Thanks for the mind-screw..

  2. I agree. I think people put a lot of pressure on getting a house. When I first moved on my own, my mama suggested I buy a house. I had to reinforce, that is not my dream. When I get married, I’ll worry about that, but it’s not something that’s needed for me on my own.
